#
# ABSTRACT:
# The report authors maintained notes detailing the process that
# was used to do the analysis for this report. The pertinent
# notes were included in the appendix of the report.
# Some details that did not warrant publication reside
# in these notes. These notes are being archived in the
# event that they might be of use to future water-use
# efforts aimed at stream-valley aquifers.

In Pierre's email, what he's saying is that
for the two counties in which SVA is shown in the GW Atlas, the rules
for those two counties is that wells are to be cased to bedrock. So
we can conclude that there are no withdrawals from SVA in NJ.

Steve and Molly,

Here is a note on potential SVA withdrawals in New Jersey:

Exhibit 1: 2000 Ground-water Withdrawals for New Jersey.

(Embedded image moved to file: pic10556.jpg)

For starters, the study area is only south of the line of continental
glaciation, so the withdrawals from Glacial
sand and gravel aquifers does not apply.

That leaves only "Surficial aquifer system" as a possible source for
stream-valley aquifer withdrawals (SVA).
But only 0.22 Mgal/d is recorded for that aquifer unit.

Figure 6 on page L3 of segment 11 of the Ground Water Atlas of the United
States shows alluvium along streams
and rivers, south of the southern limit of glaciation, to be in Hunterdon
and Mercer Counties. From my knowledge of
New Jersey it is unlikely that the irrigation withdrawals attributed to the
Surficial aquifer system originated from wells
located along the Delaware River.

In addition, an oral communication with the New Jersey Water Use Specialist
indicated that wells are typically cased
to bedrock to protect against ground water contamination and thus wells
along the Delaware River would not usually
be screened in shallow alluvial deposits.

Therefore in conclusion, no SVA withdrawals are estimated for New Jersey.
